You’ll run along the 101 freeway in Nyeland Acres, near Oxnard. The runners follow a flat and fast course, along the fragrant strawberry fields, through Downtown Oxnard and the Henry T. Oxnard Historic District decorated for the holidays, to the beach, and finish at Channel Islands Harbor.
What started in 2003 as a toy drive to celebrate the relocation of the world’s largest Santa Claus from Carpinteria to Oxnard has grown into a robust running event, toy drive, community fundraiser, and holiday season celebration.
The San Diego Holiday Half Marathon is a fast 13.1 mile course that starts on Penasquitos Drive in front of the Hotel Karlan (formerly, the Doubletree Golf Resort) then travels SW along Carmel Mountain Rd (your only ‘real’ hill at mile 1.5), along the 56 bike path and finishes at the beautiful Torrey Pines State Beach (pictured above!). The race includes a 711-foot net elevation drop along the rolling downhill bike path, which also makes it a personal best candidate. This popular winter half has been a sell out event every year and sure to sell out for 201. Get your end of the year PR!!!
The 22nd annual Solar Turbines 5K run will take place on the corner of Harbor Drive and Ash St. and finishes in Ruocco Park. Athletes will run past 100,000 spectators. The race begins at the corner of Harbor Dr. & Ash St. and heads south on Harbor Drive to 8th St., behind the San Diego Convention Center. It continues north along the marina walkway making a loop through Embarcadero Park N., finishing on the walkway just past G Street in time to catch the first band and balloons as they parade by.
